5 Ways to Style Your Basic Little Black Dress

Wearing dresses is perceived by few people as something very easy to wear, as it is one-piece clothing and you don’t need to worry about on what bottom or top to match it. However, some people wanted to portray differently and not just wear something plain and boring.

They wanted to add a little spice to their dress to make it more fashionable. The question is, are you one of those who want to add spice to your style? If yes, here are five ways to style one of your simple clothing pieces— a basic little black dress.

PUT ON SOME CARDIGAN, JACKET, OR BLAZER

There’s nothing easier than layering something on top of your dress.

For a casual look, try putting on some cardigan or a denim jacket above your dress. You can choose a color that’s either contrasting to black or you could also stay with a black one. A white pair of sneakers will make it more stylish.

For a classier look, add some oversized blazers to it to level up your outfit. You’ll look more elegant by pairing it up with high heels.

WEAR INNER SHIRT (SUITABLE FOR STRAPPY DRESS)

Aside from wearing something above it, you could also wear something underneath a black dress. You could try putting on a top—either a shirt, cropped shirt, or long sleeves. Any casual top will do as long as the color’s contrasting to black.  The fun part is, you can now wear your comfortable bra and not worry if the strap’s showing or if it’s falling. To finish the look, put on some white sneakers to enhance that casual vibe.

MAKE IT A SKIRT

Something that you can make out of your basic little black dress is converting it into a skirt. Nope, you’re not doing any needlework. All you have to do is put on some top, make sure it’s not as lengthy as your dress, and voila! You now have another go-to outfit.

TRANSFORM IT INTO A TOP (SUITABLE FOR STRAPPY DRESS)

On the other hand, you could also make your dress a top. Yes, you won’t also do any needlework here, don’t worry.

For layering it with pants, just fold the dress a few inches to prevent bunching, and then tuck it into your pants. It’s just that easy. For a little flavor, just add some belts and pair them up with shoes and accessories that are color-coordinated.

As for layering it with a skirt, make sure that the fabric used in the skirt is thick to avoid seeing your dress through it. Also, wear a skirt that’s lengthier than your dress, because you don’t want to make it too obvious.

ACCESSORIZE

Of course, if you don’t want to layer some clothing pieces above or underneath your gorgeous basic little dress, you could always slay it just by putting on some accessories. Always remember that your accessories must be balanced with the color of your dress and shoes. But then, you could always go with an all-black outfit.

Styling your clothing pieces is something that you should learn, not just to look good but also to explore what’s best for you. Dress up and find that style for you.
